Mission Statement
“To
empower consumers to help themselves through self-confidence and informed
choice.”
The Work Readiness Alternatives Workshop (WRAW) has been developed to provide an
improved and holistic approach to helping people with disabilities to achieve
and maintain employment and independence. The mission of the Work Readiness
Alternatives Workshop reflects that of the Vocational Rehabilitation Services.
This common mission is to assist Oregonians, with disabilities, to achieve and
maintain employment and independence.
The WRAW program provides thirty-eight different workshops specifically designed
to increase self-sufficiency, as well as employment related skills. These
workshops reflect the desire to promote independence and employment outcomes
while promoting client choice. The workshop information, assistance, and
participant interaction provide an environment that promotes psychological work
hardening, self-discovery, confidence and informed choices. The program operates
on an eight-week rotation allowing participants choice to attend which ones and
as many workshops as they desire.
The driving force of WRAW is to encourage, inspire, and empower participants
through information. This is provided by community partners and employers and is
conveyed through WRAW workshops and materials. Workshop revisions and changes
have reflected, and will continue to reflect, the input of request made by the
consumers involved. This will continue to assure a quality and valued program
for those who receive these services. It is a program designed to truly reflect
the needs of the clients we serve.
